Making Employees Happy Is The Name Of The Game

There’s no question that when the members of your staff are contented, they are bound to perform better. As reported by Dr. Camille Preston for Forbes, “one study found that happy employees are up to 20% more productive than unhappy employees. When it comes to salespeople, happiness has an even greater impact, raising sales by 37%. But the benefits don’t end there.”

In our last blog, we listed some cool ways to grow your company culture this October. They included team-building activities, fall-themed delicacies and a Halloween costume contest. Let’s continue our look at how to make your employees happy as you begin to close out the year.

Organize a charity drive.

There is certainly no wrong time of year to donate to charity. However, the last three months of the year bring us both Thanksgiving and Christmas, among other holidays. It is definitely the time for giving. Why not organize a charity drive that collects coats, scarves and blankets for a local shelter? Set up an office-wide challenge to encourage some friendly competition and grow your donation sizes. This is a great way to both strengthen team bonds and contribute to a good cause.

“Consider creating a friendly competition among departments, floors or locations,” encourages Katy Elder of Points of Light, “Keep track of which location gathers the most items. Record which individual or team contributes the most items. Recognize the donors with bragging rights or small rewards. Always keep in mind that no one should feel pressured to give so keep any competitions or incentives light-hearted.”

Promote autumn wellness.

Once again, there is no bad time of year to encourage your team to practice healthy living. However, the fall is a great time to kick off a wellness program since it’s a season when many sweet treats are passed around. Remember, as well, that the forthcoming holidays can bring about feelings of depression for many. Plan such activities as stress-reduction workshops, outdoor yoga sessions or even walking meetings in a nearby park to enjoy the fall air.

“When possible, find ways to be active outdoors in nature,” suggests Sydnie Fultz of Backstitch, “Being physically active outdoors may lead to further boosts in mental well-being beyond those seen with indoor exercise. With the changing of the seasons, it is the perfect time to enjoy a family nature hike and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage.”

Give your office a fall makeover.

Don’t underestimate the power of a cozy and colourful environment. Decorating your office with fall-themed colours and images can help set the tone for enjoyable work days. Consider making the whole venture of decorating a team-building exercise. Encourage team members to bring in some decorative pumpkins, leaves and the like. You may even want to host a “Create Your Own Scarecrow” contest.

“Aesthetics play a significant role in shaping the mood and atmosphere of a workspace,” affirms ReModern Living, “A visually appealing and comfortable office can have a positive impact on employee morale. When employees enjoy their surroundings, they are more likely to feel motivated, engaged, and satisfied with their work. This can lead to higher retention rates and a more positive company culture.”
